More About Goat Milk

There are several organizations that play key roles in the Ontario dairy goat industry.

  • Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) are responsible for licencing and inspecting dairy goat producers. In addition, the Ministry has developed many helpful resources for producing quality goat milk. For more information please visit: http://www.omafra.gov.on.ca/english/livestock/.
  • Most recently, the two volunteer producer organizations in the province merged their memberships. The former Ontario Goat Milk Producers’ Association (OGMPA) has dissolved their membership and joined forces with the Ontario Goat Breeders Association (OGBA). This organization represents the interests of goat farmers in Ontario and are a good resource for current and interested producers: http://www.ogba.ca/index.htm.
  • In 2003, the Canadian Agri-Food Research Council created a document outlining the “recommended code of practice for the care and handling of farm animals – goats”. http://www.nfacc.ca/pdf/english/Goats2004.pdf.
  • The Canadian National Goat Federation (CGNF) was incorporated in October 2003 and is the national representative for Canada’s goat producers. Producers are not required to join this organization, as the organization represents the interests of the provincial groups.
